10 gestes Zéro Déchets a adopter - partie 1

10 Zero Waste gestures to adopt - part 1

Reducing your waste is simple! All you have to do is adopt a few daily gestures that will make a difference in your consumption and also in your expenses.

10. Have a compost

1/3 of your household waste can be composted! If you live in an apartment or don't have a garden, you can invest in a vermicomposter. Ideal for balconies, terraces or even indoors, this type of compost does not give off an odor and also makes it possible to create a very good (natural) fertilizer for your plants!

9. Coffee residue is no longer thrown away

Also known as "coffee grounds", coffee residue can serve a real purpose, instead of ending up in the trash. You can scatter them in the sink (with baking soda) to maintain your plumbing. You can put it in your vermicompost so that it is disintegrated in a natural way. You can also use it as a natural scrub: the coffee beans will exfoliate your skin and remove dead skin.

8. Save water

We use water daily whether it is for our hygiene or for cooking. For example, to rinse fruit and vegetables or when waiting for the water to heat up before taking a shower. All of these uses waste many liters of water. To avoid this, we advise you to recover the water from rinsing food for another use: watering your plants, for example.

7. Stop the classic sponges

Our Japanese friends have created a new ecological sponge! Handmade with scraps of various fabrics, it does exactly the same job as a classic synthetic sponge. The advantage of this sponge, named Tawashi, is that it lasts 6 times longer than all other sponges (even vegetable sponges). You can even make it at home with old, unused fabrics, as explained in this tutorial .

6. Say goodbye to paper towels

We all have a somewhat abusive use of paper towels: a small drop of coffee falls on the table, hop we wipe and that several times a day. So it's time to switch to cloth towels! You can make them yourself with custom fabrics or buy them directly.

5. Zero Waste = BULK!

One of the pillars of Zero Waste is bulk. This consists of considerably reducing the packaging of our foods such as pasta, rice, dried fruits, vegetables, etc. For this, you will just have to prepare your own container at home before going shopping to avoid d get some at the supermarket. You can also favor stores specializing in bulk.

See you in a few days for the rest of the Top 10...
